The University strives to maintain normal operations throughout the winter months. In rare instances, the weather's severity may require the University to ban or modify normal parking operations. Use of the rooftop levels of the University's parking garages may be limited or restricted in the hours before a foretasted winter storm event.

Decisions to ban or modify normal parking operations will be made following a careful review of available weather forecasts, road reports, and travel conditions.
Announcement of parking ban or modifications made during the overnight hours will be made by 5:00 AM, whenever possible. Unfortunately, New England's weather can be highly unpredictable, and travel conditions can change rapidly. For these reasons, last-minute notifications might be necessary.
University parking permit holders likely to be affected by winter storm parking restrictions will be notified by messages sent to their UConn email addresses.
Some University operations and services are essential despite severe weather and include dining, health, public safety, residential services, and animal care.
Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff
Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff required to report to the Storrs campus when the University is officially closed will be allowed to parking in the North and South parking garages at no charge. These no-charge garage parking arrangements will continue until 8:00 AM of the day, upon which regular weekday garage operations resume.
Resident Student Permit Holders
Resident student permit holders may park in the North or South parking garages in Storrs at no charge during weather-related University closures must remove their vehicles from those facilities by 8:00 AM, on the day regular weekday garage operations resume. Residents who remain parked in these facilities after the 8:00 AM deadline will be required to pay for all subsequent hours at the published garage rates. Resident student permit vehicles that remain within the parking garages can also be ticketed $30/day after the aforementioned deadline.
Student Permit Parking Bans & Re-locations
Parking Services may require that resident student permit holders temporarily relocate their vehicles to the alternate parking locations identified within the table below to facilitate the removal of snow and ice associated with winter storm events.
When resident student vehicles must be relocated, Parking Services will inform the affected permit holders of their alternate parking accommodations via email messages, website postings, Daily Digest announcements, and social media.

- Posted signage in the affected locations will be posted whenever possible.
- Compliance with such parking relocation requests and bans is required.
- Parking citations ($50 fee) may be given to vehicles that remain parked in locations from which vehicles must be relocated and where parking bans are in effect.
- During emergencies and other special situations (e.g., snowstorms, unusual crowds, university events, road or building construction), Parking and Transportation Services or the UConn Police may temporarily suspend or otherwise modify specific University parking regulations. Temporary parking regulations and restrictions have the full force and effect of permanent regulations. A vehicle left unattended on University property during such emergency or special situations may be towed at the owner’s risk and expense if parked in violation of temporary or permanent regulations or if such vehicle impedes traffic flow or snow removal operations.
Weather and road conditions may vary considerably across the state. Each member of the University community must evaluate the circumstances they face and act appropriately and responsibly. When it comes to winter travel, always consider your safety first.
