Parking Permits

Parking permits and garage key cards are issued to the individual registering a motor vehicle and are not transferable to any other person. Failure to follow this policy is a violation that subjects the vehicle to ticketing and towing and may expose students to disciplinary action. Employee parking permits may not be used by students. Likewise, employees may not use student permits.

All permits remain the property of the University and may be revoked or reclaimed without warning for just cause.

Parking permits are numbered and identified by lettering or wording corresponding to the level of parking privilege afforded the permit holder. Vehicles may only park within the area that their permit allows Monday through Friday 7AM - 5PM. At all other times, vehicles may park in any legal parking space that has not been restricted, reserved for a specific vehicle, or otherwise limited as to its use. This includes special events, winter parking bans, and construction sites, as well as any other unplanned necessary closures.

All permanently affixed permits must be adhered to the front windshield in the lower right corner of the passenger side. Application of the permit by any other means such as tape, or in any other non-permanent manner is considered a violation and the vehicle is subject to ticketing. Any temporary permits must be clearly displayed on the passenger side of the dashboard, and employee hang tags must be hung from the vehicle's rearview mirror.

Eligible employees and students may register motorcycles as an alternate vehicle for a fee of $10. Each student is allowed to register only one automobile, however, if the motorcycle is the primary vehicle registered, the full registration fee is required. Regular parking restrictions pertain to motorcycles and all motorcycle/moped permits must be permanently affixed to the license plate of the motorcycle.

Registration Requirements

All employees and commuter students may purchase parking permits. Student status supersedes any other status in determining the type of parking assignment. Students living on campus (resident students) must have 54 or more credits to be eligible for parking. Qualified individuals are required to register their vehicles with Parking Services, pay a registration fee, and display a valid permit. Photo driver's license and a valid UConn I.D. must be presented when purchasing a permit. All University of Connecticut part time or special payroll employees that become full time must notify Parking Services to obtain a permit change. Note: All outstanding parking tickets must be paid prior to obtaining a parking permit.

In order to purchase a parking permit, the applicant and the registered vehicle must meet all legal requirements for operation within the State of Connecticut. The motor vehicle to be registered must be owned (or operated) by the applicant or a member of his/her immediate family and must carry insurance or other form of security as established under Connecticut Motor Vehicle Laws (Title 14). Students may not register vehicles belonging to other students and applicants must provide proof of vehicle registration when registering.

Parking Fees

Parking fees vary depending on the type of parking afforded. Payment for student and special-payroll employee permits is by cash, check, or money order. Full-time employees' signed payroll deduction forms are valid for the duration of their parking permit. Remember to notify Parking Services of your vehicle changes.

The fees for Employee Area 2 are based on a graduated fee scale according to employee salaries. Special-payroll employees are charged a flat fee that is prorated according to duration of employment. The following rates apply to parking permits:

Type Full Year Summer
Residents $110 $20
Commuters $86 - $324* $20
TAs, GAs $0 - $324*
Employees $0 - $650*

Refunds

Any person who has pre-paid a yearly vehicle registration fee is entitled to a refund. The parking permit must be returned to the Parking Services Office in an identifiable form with the serial numbers distinguishable. Individuals parking in and paying for the North or South Parking Garage must return the garage keycard and parking permit before a refund can be processed.

For students, applications for refunds must be made no later than October 1st of the fall semester and for half-year refunds must be made no later than February 15th of the spring semester. There is no refund on motorcycle registrations when the motorcycle is registered as an alternate vehicle.

Regular employees wishing to cancel their parking privileges must return their permit and submit a letter to the Parking Services Office requesting discontinuance of their payroll deduction. Special-payroll employee refunds will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
